Which one to choose, Sony S Tablet or iPad 2

Sony is supposed to release two new tablets in the coming September, 2011 with the codename Sony S1 Tablet and Sony S2 Tablet, although currently, we have no idea the exact name, but speculation arises upon the two press release by Sony in Tokyo and San Francisco in April.

You may already noticed that, there are already discussions about iPad 2 and the new Sony S Tablet to be released in September, how to choose the proper one for you, Sony S Tablet or iPad 2. To go deep into the topic, it is necessary for us to know the basic information about iPad 2 and Sony S Tablet.


Basic information about iPad 2
iPad 2 is the second generation of the iPad, which is 15% lighter and 33% thinner than the original iPad. It is a tablet computer developed and marketed by Apple and designed by Jonathan Ive. It serves primarily as a platform for audio-visual media including books, periodicals, movies, music, games and web content, and is available in black or white. iPad 2 has already been released since March, 2011.


General information about Sony S Tablet
Although, we don’t know the exact release date of Sony S Tablet, we know Sony S Tablet are a pair of tablets codenamed Sony S1 Tablet and Sony S2 Tablet which will be released in September, 2011. According to online posts, Sony S1 Tablet will be named as Sony Tablet S with a 9 inches screen and 1024*768 resolution. And Sony S2 Tablet will be given name Sony Tablet P with possibly 5.5 inches touchscreens.


Comparison between Sony S Tablet and iPad 2
There are already debate around Sony S Tablet and iPad 2, which is the the best tablet to hold. They mainly focus on the following aspects:
Display and size:
Sony S1 Tablet comes with an usually sized 9.4-inch capacity multi-touch screen and a 1280*800 pixel resolution, and Sony S2 Tablet has a 5.5 inches multi-touch screen with the resolution of 1024*480 pixels. While, The iPad 2 features a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.

Camera:
Sony S1 Tablet comes with both front and rear-facing cameras, but there’s no word yet on how many megapixels each of them have, and Sony S2 Tablet is said to have 5MP front and rear-facing camera. The resolution is 2592*1944 pixels. Digital Zoom, Video recording, and Video streaming facility is also available. While, iPad 2 comes installed with a 0.7MP rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

Processor:
Sony S Tablet features a similar dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and there is no word yet on how much storage there will be on the Sony S Tablet. And, iPad 2 comes equipped with a 1GHz dual-core A5 chip and 512MB of RAM and will be available in three versions 16GB, 32GB and 64GB

Connectivity:
Sony S1 Tablet comes with WiFi and DLNA connectivity, and Sony S2 Tablet 2 is also a Wi-Fi enabled DLNA device with the same headphone connector of 3.5mm. While, iPad 2 has Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G, and HDMI connectivity.

Unlike, Sony S1 Tablet and Sony S2 Tablet are Android Honeycomb 3.0 OS Tablets, which is Google’s new version of their hugely popular operating system and is specifically designed for tablets that can support Flash so Web pages which can be viewed the way they’re meant to be.

Price:
Sony S1 Tablet will be around $599 only, Sony S2 Tablet is said to be around $699 only. And iPad 2 is available now for as low as $499 for the 16GB WiFi model, $599 for the 32GB, and $699 for the 64GB.

Which one to choose, still a puzzle
You may still have a clear idea which one is suitable to choose, well, I can’t give you a definitely answer, because, Sony S Tablet has not yet been released, we have no way to get the exact data of what the two tablets will be. And I suggest wait and see how exactly Sony S Tablet, and then compare them with iPad 2, to make your decision depending on your own requirements.
