"The camcorder is a Sony MiniDv and the computer is a Dell Dimension E310 desktop computer. I also need to know would iMovie be the best and safest way to edit it? I don't have any idea what cable to use and where to connect it on my camcorder or computer, I don't see a place to connect whatever cable is needed for this."

Transfer Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V, HX7V, HX9V AVCHD video to Windows Movie Maker
"I have a Sony cyber-shot DSC-HX5V camcorder and I can't view the videos without the CD. So I installed said CD and watched some of the videos. I then tried exporting the videos to windows movie maker. Once in windows movie maker, it identified my videos as audio clips. How do I fix this?"
