3.I recently purchased the panasonic sdr-s7 a hard-disk camera, and after taking some shots I connected it to my mac only to see that the files (MOD and MOI) won't open . Is there anyway to get around this/are there any solutions !

......

Are you also bothered by these kinds of problems and want to find a solution? If you want to watch and edit mod files on mac smoothly, you can read this, it will show you the easiest and most efficient way to solve the hassle.

Panasonic SDR-S series camcorders (e.g. SDR-S50, S26, S10, S7, SDR-S25A, SDR-S26R, etc) record .mod with the video compression of MPEG2. The MOD video can playback on the media player, which has capability of reproducing MPEG-2 video. However, the video is not compatible with Mac program like QuickTime, iMovie, FCE, FCP, etc. Maybe you have tried to rename them to .mov, but you still can't import it to iMovie.

So, you should change the MOD files to mac-friendly format. The MOD Converter mac should be your excellent assistant, which can help to convert Convert MOD to iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Creative Zen, cell phones, Zune, BlackBerry, Gphone, iRiver, Palm, Walkman and to applications such as iDVD, iMovie, iTunes etc., then the program will output iMovie acceptable video formats like MOV, MPEG4, DV, etc.
Take the below three steps to finish converting Panasonic SDR-S series MOD video to mac-friendly format mov, DV, etc., take imovie for example:

Step1: Import Panasonic MOD video

Install and Load Doremisoft Panasonic MOD to iMovie Converter, then click "Add File" to input your Panasonic MOD files to the program.

Step2: Set Output Video Format for iMovieClick "Profile" to open the Profile drop-up list to select MOV, MPEG4 or DV as output video format for iMovie.

Step3: Convert Panasonic MOD to mac imovie.

A knowledge of WMV format

WMV is the short name of "Windows Media Video". It was developed and introduced by Microsoft Corporation. It is similar to the MP4 format. It is mostly used for streaming web contents. You can use Windows Media Video for both streaming and downloading content on the internet. It is compatible to the Windows Media Player and easily plays on it.

These formats easily play on all Microsoft Operating System media players. WMV format files, which can't play on portable devices, like I Pad and I Phone. If you download the movies from the web site after too much time and can't play on your computer, because of incompatible WMV format.

With many WMV files in hand, you may want to view them on your peronal computer, or watch them from the hard drive of your computer, or other media players.

To play a WMV file, a set of codecs are required. A codec is a program that can easily read a file, creating video and audio formats from the provided data. WMV files may be played on Microsoft Windows Media Player and other media players as well.

Software that can play WMV files include Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, MPlayer, The KMPlayer, Media Player Classic and VLC Media Player. The Microsoft Zune media management software supports the WMV codec, but uses a Zune-specific variation of Windows Media DRM which is used by PlaysForSure. Many third-party players exist for various platforms such as Linux that use the FFmpeg implementation of the WMV codecs.

On the Macintosh platform, Microsoft released a PowerPC version of Windows Media Player for Mac OS X in 2003, but further development of the software has ceased. Microsoft currently endorses the 3rd party Flip4Mac WMV, a QuickTime Component which allows Macintosh users to play WMV files in any player that uses the QuickTime framework, free of charge to view files but chargeable to convert formats. The WMV installer is bundled with Microsoft Silverlight by default, installation without Silverlight can be accomplished with a "Custom" install. According to the Flip4Mac website, WMV files with DRM encryption are not compatible with the component.

DSC-W530 Sony Cyber-shot camcorder review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W530 is a relatively cheap, very light and compact camera that's designed for users who want something simple to operate and easy to carry. It's very much a 'Facebook' camera in that its picture quality isn't great — it's merely adequate when it comes to happy snaps — but you can take it pretty much anywhere by just slipping it into your pocket, be it parties, clubs or concerts.

The quality of the W530's images is adequate at best and it's suitable for taking happy snaps — just don't expect it to do a good job in all situations. On bright days it will often blow out highlights and this can tarnish otherwise decent photos. Sometimes photos have poor definition, even when you view them at a small size. You won't want to crop your photos too closely because this will accentuate the messy look of the pictures. Furthermore, we noticed blurriness close to the edges of many of the images we captured.
The high ISO performance of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W530 isn't good, primarily because the photos change colour tone as the ISO level changes. This can pose problems in auto mode when then camera automatically changes the ISO speed, as different colour casts might affect your photos. You can change shooting modes by entering the main menu, where you can select from Program mode or one of nine scene modes. It's definitely not a comprehensively-featured camera in this respect — there isn't even a macro scene mode, even though the camera automatically selects this mode in iAUTO mode when you are close enough to your subject. Like many compacts, the W530 performs best when used to shoot macros.

Image Storage JPEG 4320 x 3240,
JPEG 4320 x 2432,
JPEG 3648 x 2736,
JPEG 2592 x 1944,
JPEG 1920 x 1080,
JPEG 640 x 480
Video Capture
AVI - 640 x 480,
AVI - 320 x 240

Features:
SteadyShot™ image stabilization
SteadyShot™ image stabilization compensates for camera shake and helps prevent blur through use of digital processing technologies.

Smile Shutter™ technology
Smile Shutter™ technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter™ button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can now be used together with Smile Shutter™ mode when the Intelligent Auto mode is on. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.

Natural Flash
Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images.

Dynamic Range Optimizer Standard and Plus
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees. DRO is particularly effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with a dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. DRO Plus allows for even greater optimization by analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing.

Easy Shooting Mode
With Easy Shooting Mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting Mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices and allowing you to focus on just your subject. Since this mode works together with Intelligent Scene Recognition, the camera selects the optimum setting for each scene. In addition the easy mode simplifies preview mode.

Includes Sony® PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Software ver. 5.3
Sony Picture Motion Browser software offers a simple, intuitive way to transfer, sort, and view your video and still images on your compatible PC. In addition, multiple output options let you burn your memories to DVD (sold separately), as well as take advantage of one click upload to a number of popular video and photo sharing sites

Panasonic FX78 12-megapixels of resolution camcorder

Announced in January 2011, the Panasonic FX78 as it's known in North America, is a 12.1 Megapixel compact with a 5x stabilised zoom and a 3.5in touch-screen display. The FX78 is slimmer and lighter than previous FX series models and has a newly designed CCD sensor with faster AF operation.
The FX78 has all of the automated features that have become standard on Panasonic compacts as well as those from other manufacturers - face detect AF, scene recognition and a range of scene modes. It adds a new 3D still image mode and makes full use of the screen with touch-focus and touch shooting features.
There are no manual exposure modes, though Normal Picture mode (or Program auto as it's called on other compacts) provides exposure compensation and lets you set the ISO sensitivity, white balance, and a few other options. The FX78 can shoot full HD 1080i video encoded, as you'd expect, in AVCHD format. We've compared it with two similarly priced models from Canon and Sony, The IXUS 310 HS and Lumix FX78, with a similar range of features, but some stand-out differences too, at an equivalent price.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX78 features:
Ultra-compact body
12-megapixels of resolution
5x optical zoom with 24mm wide view
MEGA O.I.S.
Fast f/2.5 maximum aperture
3.5-inch Touchscreen LCD with Touch AF, Touch Zoom, Touch Shutter, and Touch Playback
Smart Touch technology
Full 1920x1080 (AVCHD) HD video capture
Li-ion battery pack
Available in Black or Sliver
The good: Large 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD; sleek and stylish design; unobstructed access to battery and memory card compartment.
The bad: Touchscreen can be unintuitive for; battery life depletes too quickly.
The bottom line: While smartphone users will find the graphical menu interface easy to master, the FX78 is basically a camera that offers good image quality without comprising on style.

iPhone 5 rumored to launch in October

Another day, another rumor surrounding Apple's next iPhone.

South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper is reporting today that Apple plans to launch its next iPhone in October. The publication heard the news from the head of human resources at Foxconn's Taiyuan factory, according to Kotaku, which translated the story. The human resources head said that Foxconn "just got the order", adding that the "release will be around October".

It's not often that the head of human resources would have information on Apple's next iPhone, but according to the Korean paper, it spoke with the person because the Northern China factory has been looking to hire many people in advance of the launch.

But as with any other Apple-related rumor, this one should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. Just last week, TV Tokyo recorded a conversation with a Foxconn recruiter, who told potential hires that it seemed likely that the iPhone will be going on sale in June.

Earlier rumors have also been mixed on the iPhone's eventual launch. Back in February, Japanese blog Macotakara said the iPhone will be launching this fall. Less than three weeks earlier, a Chinese paper said the device would launch in June. Either launch period seems plausible, since the company has historically offered up its new smartphone version in both months. That said, it won't make any indication when it'll launch the new iPhone--or even admit that it's in the works--until it holds a special event.

According to the latest rumors, Apple's next iPhone--believed to be called the iPhone 5--will launch with 4G LTE service and possibly come with a 4.6-inch display. Apple's current iPhone boasts a 3.5-inch screen.
Apple did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment on the latest report.
